brrRhinebeck WinterFun Weekend: Sleds, Skates and Sails!

February 15, 2018 - February 19, 2018

The Rhinebeck Area Chamber would like to encourage the public to take advantage of Rhinebeck’s town and village activity areas to go outside and play during the cold weather season.

A special attraction will be the ice boat, ORION. On display at the Delamater Inn during the Presidents Day weekend, Feb 17-18.  Weather permitting sails will be up and lit with beautiful white lights for a wonderful evening photo op. The ORION was built in 1906 in Saugerties, her current owner is Robert Wills, vice Commodore of the Hudson River Ice Yacht Club.  Mr. Wills will present a slide show and Q&A about the history of ice boats on the Hudson, at the Delamater Conference Center, 25 Garden Street, Rhinebeck at 1pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Drayton Grant Park at Burger Hill, offers one of the highest points in the Town of Rhinebeck. From the peak of the Hill you can glimpse the Hudson River, see the spires and silos of the surrounding countryside, and enjoy a magnificent view of the Catskill Mountains to the West and the Taconic Mountains to the east. Leashed dogs are welcome. Ellen Henneberry of Winnakee Land Trust adds “On a snowy day, what better way to refresh your spirit than to visit Drayton Grant Park at Burger Hill for an invigorating sled, snowshoe, cross country ski, or hike! The 76-acre park is open from 9a.m. – sunset daily.” NY-9G, Rhinebeck.

Ferncliff Forest Ranger Knick Staley reminds us of all the activities at Ferncliff Forest

“we have cross-country skiers, ice skaters, hikers, snow-shoers, Fat Tire Bikers and winter camping. And we still have people who come just to climb the Tower or walk their dogs at Ferncliff Forest”. 68 Mt Rutsen Road, Rhinebeck, the 200-acre forest preserve is open 24 hours.
