Manitoga/ The Russel Wright Design Center
November 1 - November 18
Visit MANITOGA, the House, Studio and Woodland Garden of pioneer industrial designer, Russel Wright (1904-1976), envisioned with his wife Mary Einstein Wright (d. 1952) for their family. Experience Dragon Rock, the experimental home which Wright built onto the rock ledge of an abandoned quarry while masterfully orchestrating the surrounding landscape into a series of outdoor rooms of varying character and delight. Tours last approximately 90 minutes (2 hours for special experiences / programs) and are held rain or shine. Tours participants follow the upper Quarry path, enjoying stunning views of the Quarry Pool, House and Studio. An ascending stone stair leads to a mountain laurel grove and the exquisite moss rooms before crossing the majestic Waterfall over a wood plank bridge. Once at Dragon Rock, the House and Studio interiors are defined by expanses of glass, innovative materials use, and seamless connections to outside terraces. *Please review our VISITOR INFORMATION section when planning your visit. All of the below experiences includes the interiors of the House, Studio & Design Gallery. All tour programs include a moderate hike through the landscape to and from Dragon Rock. Visitors must be able to negotiate uneven ground and ascend and descend several sets of stairs, including a 40-step stone stair with handrail. *
