By Matt Moment and Sabrina Sucato via hvmag
It’s been quite the year, Hudson Valley. No matter what 2023 looked like for you, there’s no better way to celebrate the arrival of 2024 than with delicious food, good music, and plenty of local libations. Whether you’re seeking fine dining with waterfront views or parties that last well into the night, there are so many ways to celebrate the new year in our region.
Dinner
1915 Wine Cellar
New Year’s Eve
Three-course prix-fixe meal and party
Poughkeepsie
It’s high time for you to get wined and dined! That’s precisely what patrons can expect this New Year’s Eve at 1915 Wine Cellar, Poughkeepsie’s premier wine bar experience. The venue leans into the 1920s, so plan to dress accordingly as you count down to 2024. Guests can reserve a two- or four-person table to savor a three-course meal inspired by French cuisine popular during the Roaring ’20s. The menu consists of a warm baguette with salted butter, dressed green iceberg wedge, duck a l’orange, and dessert. For VIP guests, a buffet filled with charcuterie and finger foods will also be available from 8-10:30 p.m. In the hours leading up to midnight, attendees can dance to tunes from international DJ and producer CIRE.
Callicoon Hills
New Year’s Eve, 7:30 p.m.
Dinner and party, $160; Party only $75
Callicoon Center
Where better to begin a new year than in the Catskills? Whether you go for the dinner and the New Year’s Eve bash or just the party, you’re sure to have a stellar evening here. The night begins with dinner at the Conover Club, the resort’s onsite restaurant, which delights with an appetizer buffet and family-style dinner. From there, guests can hop over to the Farmhouse Room at Callicoon Hills for beer, wine, and batched cocktails from 9:30 p.m. to midnight, with a smattering of light bites and DJ entertainment to add to the mix. At midnight, a champagne toast helps to ring in the new year.
Greca
New Year’s Eve, seatings at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Four-course meal and champagne toast, $150/person
White Plains
Greca goes big for New Year’s Eve with a four-course meal that leans into Mediterranean flavors. Diners can expect to savor bites like grilled octopus and roasted organic chicken and salmon, not to mention a chef’s collection of Greek pastries. To make the deal even sweeter, Greca offers free valet parking at The Opus hotel for anyone who takes part in the evening festivities.
The Grandview
New Year’s Eve, 7 p.m. – 1 a.m.
Cocktail reception, dinner, and open bar, $160/person
Poughkeepsie
The Grandview’s New Year’s Gala is a must for Hudson Valley party-goers. Six hours of a top-shelf open bar and tunes selected by K104’s Bill Beale are certainly alluring, but the sheer variety of food truly takes the cake. (Try your hardest not to completely fill up on food during the 90-minute cocktail reception.) The seafood display will wow connoisseurs of undersea cuisine with colossal shrimp, shucked littleneck clams, oysters, seafood martinis, and more. If you’re more in the mood for turf than surf, the reception also promises Spanish fare, American grub, Chinese takeout-themed bites, and Italian victuals. And that says nothing of the main course.
For dinner, patrons will savor a pasta ala vodka and Caesar salad alongside their choice of seared filet mignon, chicken Madeira, eggplant Sicilian, or salmon Oscar. If, miraculously, you haven’t stuffed yourself silly by this point in the night, the dessert option is a Minutes to Midnight confection that features layers of caramel chocolate mousse cake, dulce de leche, chocolate ganache, and fresh profiterole. The champagne-soaking “decadent departures” that The Grandview offers—bacon, egg, and cheese croissants, cheeseburger sliders, and hot dogs—are exactly the right snack to conclude a night of Dionysian revelry.
Hudson House River Inn
New Year’s Eve
Three-course dinner, $65/person
Cold Spring
The holidays are a tradition at Cold Spring’s Hudson House River Inn, a local institution since 1832. Try the famous lobster bisque, Dijon-dusted New Zealand rack of lamb, or the surf and turf. Follow that with decadent desserts like apple tartine, Belgian chocolate mousse cake, and New York-style cheesecake—the perfect way to leave 2023 in your wake.
Il Figlio Enoteca
New Year’s Eve
A la carte
Fishkill
Scott Rosenberg of Il Barilotto fame continues to leave his mark on Dutchess County’s culinary scene. His follow-up to the beloved Fishkill institution, appropriately named Il Figlio Enoteca (il figlio translates to “the son”), hosts a classy New Year’s Eve feast. The a la carte meal commences with antipasti; diners can choose from steamed littleneck clams, arancini, eggplant Napoleon, and beef carpaccio. If you need a little something else to whet your palate ahead of the secondi, order the seafood bisque with cognac and lobster or the crispy oyster salad with cornmeal-crusted oysters. When it comes to your main meal, Il Figlio serves up a slew of toothsome proteins like milk-fed veal chop, lobster fra diavolo, and green herb-crusted lamb chops, as well as truffled mushroom risotto for plant-forward diners.

The restaurant’s winter menu is quite lengthy—it even includes vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options—meaning there’ll be a little something for everyone in your New Year’s Eve entourage. Start off with snacks and appetizers like jumbo lump crab cakes, butternut squash soup, tacos carnitas, and Windridge Farm mushroom fondue. The entrees, too, are as mouthwatering as they are eclectic. Look to the pan-roasted duck breast with gingered sweet potato puree, oxtail cannelloni and sauteed prawns, steak frites, or lamb ragu paccheri lisci pasta for an unforgettable meal. End things on a sweet note with a serving of Tahitian vanilla cheesecake or plum oat cobbler with vegan vanilla ice cream.
Terrapin
New Year’s Eve
Three-course prix-fixe dinner, $99/person
Rhinebeck
Terrapin brings the bells and whistles for its prix-fixe three-course dinner celebration. The eatery forgoes its regular menu in the Dining Room in favor of a curated one that favors indulgent treats. Terrapin’s creative Chef Josh Kroner includes a fully stocked tapas platter as a part of this feast. Sample Hudson Valley foie gras, goat cheese wontons, duck quesadillas topped with mango-avocado salsa, and delicious scallop blinis. Main specials range from the holiday goose with juniper demi glace to butter-poached lobster tails. If this dinner party is calling your name, don’t wait to make a reservation. With a prime location in the heart of Rhinebeck, Terrapin is a hotspot for year-end festivities.
