Guided Walking Tour of Public Art in Poughkeepsie

September 6 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

A young male painter with shoulder length dark hair, a beige baseball cap, sunglasses and a light blue tee shirt paints a colorful mural on a brick wall in Poughkeepsie.

Award-winning muralist Franc Palaia leads this tour, which is part of the Hudson River Valley Ramble.

The two-hour walking tour covers only a few blocks in downtown Poughkeepsie and examines over 45 indoor and outdoor murals, sculptures, historical monuments and works of architecture. Highlights include several New Deal-era murals commissioned by Franklin D. Roosevelt, large-scale contemporary murals, the 9/11 and Vietnam War monuments, several new works of graffiti-style street art and more.

The tour begins at the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center at 12 Vassar Street and ends on restaurant row on Main Street. If time allows, stick around for lunch and discussion with the group (lunch is not included in the tour).

Call (845) 505-3123 or email francpalaia1@gmail.com to make reservations.
