Pinkster
May 18 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Once a colonial Dutch holiday, Pinkster quickly developed into an African celebration of family, hope, and cultural identity in the 18th century. The celebration developed from cultural traditions brought to the Hudson River Valley by individuals from West and Central Africa who were enslaved by the Dutch colonists. Pinkster became a spring celebration where enslaved men and women would reunite with friends and loved ones and participate in storytelling, music, dance, food, and the selection of the Pinkster King.
The celebration at the Schuyler Mansion will feature musical performances, participatory dance, live music, fabric stamping, food, open house tours of the mansion and more.county
